25 May – World Football Day
The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed May 25 as World Football Day. This date marks the 100th anniversary of the first international football tournament with global representation, held during the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris. The resolution was introduced by Libya’s UN Ambassador, Taher El-Sonni.
11 May and 12 October – World Migratory Bird Day
World Migratory Bird Day, observed biannually on the second Saturdays of May and October, focuses on the theme ‘Protect Insects, Protect Birds’ in 2024. This day highlights the vital role insects play in supporting migratory birds during their long journeys.
India and France Conduct the 7th Edition of Military Exercise Shakti
From May 13-26, India and France are conducting the seventh edition of Exercise Shakti in the Umroi region of Meghalaya. Meghalaya Appoints Its First Woman DGP
Idashisha Nongrang has been appointed as the first woman Director General of Police (DGP) in Meghalaya, making her the first woman to hold this position in any Northeast state police force. Nongrang, from the Khasi community, was previously the Director General of Meghalaya Civil Defence.
